Find the situation you are avoiding
Is it being photographed, buying clothes, going swimming or seeing friends? Pick one real situation rather than trying to become a completely confident person. Ask what would make it more manageable: different clothing, company, a quieter time or permission to leave early.
Make the first attempt smaller
If a full event feels too much, arrange a brief visit or choose a familiar place. If buying clothes is the issue, start with one comfortable item in the size that fits now. These are possible practical steps, not treatment for an anxiety or eating disorder. You decide which, if any, feel useful.
Keep two kinds of progress
- Record changes towards your chosen health goal if tracking is helpful.
- Also notice participation: a visit made, an invitation accepted or a question asked.
- Avoid making every good day dependent on weighing less.
- Tell a trusted person which comments are unhelpful and what support you would prefer.
- If a setback happens, review the situation rather than deciding it proves something about you.
Ask for more support when needed
Persistent low mood, anxiety, body-image distress or difficulties around eating deserve support in their own right. A healthcare professional can help you choose an appropriate route. You do not need to wait for weight loss first. My Timber is a place to organise everyday goals and feedback; it is not a mental-health assessment or a substitute for care.
